Youth Flag Football Game Day & Weather

Know what to expect before heading to the field, what to bring, and how United Sports communicates weather or facility changes.

Before You Leave

Check for league updates

When weather or field conditions are uncertain, families should check current league communications before traveling to the field. Schedule changes may be shared by email, registration platform, team communication, or another season specific channel.

United Sports will communicate known changes as soon as practical, but field and facility decisions can sometimes happen close to game time.

Weather

Rain and field conditions

Light rain does not automatically mean games are canceled. Games or practices may continue when the field remains safe and the facility allows play.

Activities may be delayed, moved, shortened, rescheduled, or canceled when rain, standing water, lightning, severe storms, unsafe footing, facility restrictions, or field closures create unsafe conditions.

Lightning & Storms

Clear the field when lightning is nearby

Activities are postponed or canceled when lightning is detected within a 10 mile radius. Play may resume only after at least 30 minutes have passed since the last detected strike and the facility is safe.

Heat & Air Quality

Unsafe conditions can change the schedule

At a heat index of 95 to 99°F, mandatory water breaks, cooling measures, and close monitoring are required. At 100 to 104°F, activities may be shortened. At 104°F or higher, games should be rescheduled for cooler conditions.

Poor air quality or other environmental conditions may also require schedule adjustments or cancellations. Players should arrive hydrated and bring water to every practice and game.

What to Bring

Be ready for changing conditions

Players should arrive with their required flag football equipment, mouthguard, water, and appropriate footwear. On wet or cold days, bring extra towels, dry clothing, and warm layers for after the game.

On hot or sunny days, bring additional water and sun protection appropriate for your player.

Game Day

Arrival and field access

Arrive early enough for your player to check in, meet the coach, and be ready when practice begins. Practice and games are commonly scheduled on the same day.

Only authorized players and coaches should enter the playing area unless staff directs otherwise. Families must follow the rules of the school, park, or facility hosting the league.

Spectators

Support the players positively

Positive cheering is encouraged. Parents and spectators should treat officials, coaches, players, staff, and other families respectfully. Heckling, profanity, taunting, and negative comments toward participants or officials are not acceptable.

Important

Location specific rules still apply

Parking, seating, pets, tents, chairs, food, field access, and other site rules vary by facility. Check your league page and team communications for instructions that apply to your location.
